For students

1. Receiving EPLAN Education student licences

I am a student/attend college or university and would like to use EPLAN Education. How can I do this?

We are happy to provide you with an EPLAN Education for Students licence. To get one, please register for our software here. You will be guided through the EPLAN Cloud registration, where you can create your profile and choose which versions to download.

As a student/trainee, you also have access to an entire series of eLearning course materials on eplan.com.

What is included in the EPLAN Education for Students software?

Our EPLAN Education software includes the following products: EPLAN Electric P8 for electrical engineering, EPLAN Preplanning for technical preplanning, EPLAN Pro Panel for panel design and control cabinet engineering in 3D, and EPLAN Fluid for fluid-power systems for hydraulics, pneumatics, cooling and lubricating. Furthermore, access to the EPLAN Data Portal is also included. Please note that you have a free choice in your username and passwords, but the former must be unique – as is typical for other forums.

Please note that the EPLAN Education for Students version of the program is limited to forty pages of schematics.

Who is allowed to receive the student version of EPLAN Education?

Fundamentally all students, college and universities attendees and trainees are entitled to receive an EPLAN Education for Students licence.

We would like to use EPLAN Education in classes/for training. Are we allowed to do this?

The EPLAN Education for Classrooms version is available for teachers and trainers for non-commercial teaching in educational institutions. If interested, please contact education@eplan.de. In addition to classroom licences, you will also receive comprehensive teaching materials, training, and installation support.

May EPLAN Education for Students licences also be installed on a company computer or school computer?

No, this is not allowed.

However, EPLAN Education for Classrooms is available for instructors and trainers at non-commercial educational institutions and training departments. If interested, please contact education@eplan.de.

2. Technical questions about installation and registration

How does registration work? What do I have to do?

We recommend you watch our two-minute video about installing EPLAN Education and the registration process. You can find it here. It will guide you through the process step by step.

I need an older version, what should I do?

Our video tutorial, which you can find here, describes the steps for downloading the Eplan Education 2024 version. Note: We always provide the latest 2 versions of our Eplan Education for Student software.

I registered but don’t know where the activation code is.

After registering, you will find your EID in the EPLAN Cloud dashboard. Click on your name and the down arrow. Under Downloads, you will now see “Entitlement ID” - this is where you will find it.

If you still cannot find your EID in your account, please send an email to education@eplan.de.

During registration, a message appears that says I have already registered, but that is not the case. What can I do here?

In this case please send an email to education@eplan.de.

I do not have a number on my student ID card. What should I enter on the registration form?

In this case please enter the number of your personal ID.

My Eplan Education licence has expired, but I still need it for my education/training. How can I extend my licence?

It is not possible to extend a current licence. However, if you are still studying or in training, we can activate a new registration for you. In this case please send an e-mail, including your serial number (EPL …) to education@eplan.de.

I have an EPLAN Cloud account already, how should I proceed?

You will need to log into your EPLAN Cloud account. At the top right-hand corner, click the white arrow and on Downloads. Here you will see the versions and your "Entitlement ID" (EID).

If you encounter any issues here, please send an email to education@eplan.de.

I would like to install the most recent version of the software. How do I do that?

To use a new version of the software, you must register a new licence. Please follow the installation instructions (with the help of our video); download the most recent version of the software and install it.

If you have an older version, you will be able to log into your EPLAN Cloud account and then go to the Downloads section to update to the latest version.

I have a new computer/re-installed my operating system and my EPLAN Education student licence is no longer working. How can I transfer the licence to my new computer/the new OS?

Transferring the EPLAN Education licence to another computer or to a new operating system is now possible. You can use the same information as before.

Your „Entitlement ID“ (EID) has to be unlocked for this („Rehost“) – please send an email to education@eplan.de with your Entitlemend ID (EID) and ask us to unlock for a new EID activation.

3. Other

Can projects created with EPLAN Education be opened using EPLAN Professional?

No, EPLAN Education uses its own data format and it is incompatible with the professional version of the software.

Can I use my EPLAN Education for Students licence at home to continue to work on tasks/projects from school?

Yes, because EPLAN Education for Students and EPLAN Education for Classrooms are completely compatible with each other. However, please note that student licences are limited to forty schematics pages, therefore larger projects may not be able to be opened. The Classroom licences are unlimited in this respect.

Can users of EPLAN Education access the EPLAN Data Portal?

Access to the EPLAN Data Portal is also available for users of the Education version. Here your username and password can be chosen at will, whereby the former must be unique. You can find instructions for use in the Data Portal’s help section.

How and where can I get help with problems?

There are multiple sources for information. You can find answers to various questions in our FAQs. For getting started with the software and learning how best to work with it, take a look at the eLearning course materials on eplan.com. Our website also has a general overview of EPLAN Education. Should you have other questions, please feel free to send us an email at education@eplan.de.

Can students/trainees access EPLAN Support?

The EPLAN Education for Students version of the software does not entitle users to use the hotline or provide any warranty. Therefore access to support is not possible. However, your instructor/teacher does have the possibility of using EPLAN Support as part of their subscription to EPLAN Education.

Where do I find study materials?

As a student/trainee, you do have access to a large number of eLearning course materials on our eplan.com platform.

Do you offer certifications for students/trainees?

Yes, we offer an EPLAN Certification for Students/Trainees or arrange such with an independent certification partner. Students at vocational and technical schools (or similar) can take the exam to become an EPLAN Certified Technician (ECT), while college students can become an EPLAN Certified Student (ECS).

1. Use and purchase of EPLAN Education

I would like to use EPLAN software for teaching and training purposes. To what extent is this possible?

EPLAN Education for Classrooms is available to teachers and trainers for non-commercial teaching in educational institutions.

I am interested in using EPLAN Education. What do I need to do?

Can EPLAN Education student licences also be installed on a company or school computer?

No, this is not permitted. For non-commercial teaching in educational institutions, the EPLAN Education for Classrooms version is available for teachers and trainers.

Can I download and use a student licence as a teacher?

No, the use of student licences in the school or university environment is not intended. For this purpose, we provide you with the EPLAN Education for Classrooms version free of charge or for a small service fee.

Are there training courses for teachers or lecturers?

Yes, we offer basic training courses at various locations and online. When you order an EPLAN Education licence package, you will receive a free five-day basic training course for one of our instructors. Please contact the EPLAN Training Academy to find out more about our offer and dates.

Where can I find teaching materials?

We provide lecturers with a range of free eLearning modules. You can use these to prepare and conduct lessons and examinations.  

We are also happy to provide you with a manual to help you integrate topics and exercises into your lessons in the best possible way. As an EPLAN Education customer, you can simply download them directly here: Download teaching materials

Who can help me with the installation?

When purchasing EPLAN Education for Classrooms licences, one day of installation service by our technical consultants is included.

Who can I contact if I have problems with the software?

As EPLAN Education customers, educational institutes and training companies have access to our technical support via hotline or e-mail.

2. Technical questions

Can projects created with EPLAN Education be opened with EPLAN Professional (e.g. EPLAN Electric P8)?

No, EPLAN Education has its own data format. The data is not compatible with each other.

How can EPLAN Education users access the EPLAN Data Portal?

Access to the EPLAN Data Portal is possible for users of the Education versions. You can freely choose your user name and password. Similar to a forum, the user name must be unique. Instructions for use can be found in the help section of the Data Portal.

My installation is missing the master data (templates, symbols...)

Please go to Utilities > Master data > Synchronise system master data in the menu.

Confirm the query with [Yes].

You can select multiple sources at the top right.

Select the options one after the other, mark all displayed elements in the right-hand window (Ctrl+a) and transfer everything with the blue arrow to the left.

Repeat this for all available sources.

The master data (templates, forms, etc.) are then available to you.

The error message "Class not registered" appears at startup

Reinstall the "EPLAN Client Service" (this may need to be uninstalled first via the Control Panel > "Programs and Functions").
You will find the setup in the downloaded installation data in the "Licence Client (x64)" directory.
Then check in Control Panel > Administration > Services whether the "EPLAN Client Service" service is running.
Please also delete the old licence file located on the client in the folder "C:\Users\Public\EPLAN\Common" or move it out of the folder.
Afterwards, please carry out the activation of the Education again at startup.

Do my pupils or students have to use the same version of the EPLAN Education software as in the classroom?

Yes, if you want to exchange projects with each other, you must both use the same version.

This is necessary, for example, when you prepare an assignment and distribute it to your pupils or students. This also applies if you want to check or work on homework, exercises and final assignments.

Our software is always downward compatible. This means that a newer version can also be used to open projects that were created in an older version. However, when this project is opened, the project is converted to the new version and saved accordingly. Please note that a reverse conversion is then no longer possible.

3. Pupils and students

Can my pupils or students continue to work on their projects at home?

Yes, we provide the free EPLAN Education for Students software for pupils and students, which can be downloaded here. You will need to register with us during the installation process. For support, we offer video instructions and installation instructions in PDF format here.

Is EPLAN Education for Classrooms compatible with EPLAN Education for Students?

Yes, the two product variants are fully compatible with each other.

Please note, however, that the student licences are limited to 40 circuit diagram pages. Therefore, larger projects cannot be opened. The classroom licences are unlimited.

My pupils or students are having problems registering. How can I help them?

Is it possible to offer my students or pupils EPLAN certification?

Yes, we offer EPLAN certification for pupils and students or arrange this with an independent certification partner.

Students from vocational and technical schools, etc. can take the EPLAN Certified Technician (ECT) exam, students from universities can take the EPLAN Certified Student (ECS) exam.

As a lecturer, you first take the exam yourself. Upon successful completion, you will be authorised to conduct the practical final examination for your pupils or students yourself.
